Business Description
The Half Moon Bay Artist Residency Program is designed to foster creative, intellectual and personal growth for artists. The program asks that residents give back by creating a public art project as part of their residency.
Awards are made to those, who in the exclusive opinion of the selection committee, have submitted the best work that meets the residency’s mission.
While in residence, artists are encouraged to pursue their own work. The residency is designed to allow artists to take risks and pursue new projects and ideas, free from every day pressures. The residency is for those artists who want to advance their work or create a new body of work.
Resident artists are encouraged to pursue a multidisciplinary approach with a public art component in at least a portion of their work. This can be in the form of a short-term outdoor installation, an exhibit and reception at the conclusion of the residency or a public reading.
Resident artists are provided with housing and studio space and certain other benefits and will be required to submit only a nominal residency fee of $1,500 for a three month residency. Other options (shorter and longer residencies) are available.
While in residence, there is an optional structure of critical study such as studio visits, visiting artists and critics, etc.
